Leviton, has announced its new Smartlock Pro Self-Test GFCI Combination USB Type A/Type C In-Wall Charger outlet.
The Melville, N.Y.-based company says that its latest product combines its GFCI ground-fault technologies, along with a USB Type A and a USB Type C port. The company says the inclusion of the two USB ports allows homeowners to charge a range of devices, and the product meets National Electrical Code (NEC) for use in locations that include kitchens and bathrooms.
According to Leviton, the new 4.8A Smartlock Pro Self-Test GFCI Combination Outlet offers a total of 24 watts of power, and the global electronics manufacturer incorporates over-current protection for the two USB ports to prevent the ports from getting too much power.
Leviton says the USB ports are compatible with USB 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and 3.1 products, and the company emphasizes, like all of its products, the GFCI combination outlet is engineered to meet the latest UL standards for auto monitoring by periodically conducting an automatic internal test to confirm that protected power is available.
The company also adds that if the GFCI does detect a problem, power will trip and power will be denied. Homeowners can reset the outlet, and the reset is subject to the next auto monitoring test cycle.
In addition, for additional safety purposes, the Smartlock Pro Self-Test GFCI Combination Outlet meets NEC Article 406.12 requirements for blocking access to its contacts unless a two- or three-prong outlet is inserted.
