Sony
Sony had a “wow” product at the show. The company’s massive Crystal LED Display System, which was designed for theme parks and other commercial applications, is now available for residential use. The display can be configured to any size using modular panels, called “Crystal LED.” The panels contain 16 times as many pixels as a 4K UHD TV and 64 times as many pixels as a regular 1080p high definition TV. Each pixel is only 0.003mm. The screen has a viewing angle over 179 degrees and boasts a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio at frame rates up to 120p.
The display does not require a backlight and is brighter than OLED screens while delivering deep blacks. At CEDIA Expo, Sony had a 220-inch diagonal panel in its booth consisting of six vertical panels and 12 horizontal. The installation cost for the unit is more than $900,000, with the Sony team doing the installation and remitting a portion to the integrator.
