Krohns Coverings, Inc., a Colorado Springs, Colo.-based manufacturer of motorized shades, is expanding its specialty shade offering with the launch of its new angled and arched bottom-up roller shade solutions. The shades are targeted at CE pros throughout North America.
Prior to this announcement, Krohns' easy-to-install angled and arched shade solution has been available in the Colorado market for several years and to other markets on a limited basis.
Krohns uses a proprietary constant force spring tension box combined with unique hem bars that allow for full retraction of the shades (i.e., shades are fully operational). The motor/drive is located within the roll tube at the horizontal bottom of the opening and the fabric is pulled upwards using cords attached to springs at the top and to the unique hem bars of the shades.
Many of the more common automation drives (including Lutron and Somfy Systems) can be used with the Krohns' offering, including new high-torque rechargeable motors that are suitable for retrofit applications where pulling power is not easy.
“Current architectural styles are trending towards more angled and arched openings in higher-end homes. We are thrilled to be able to offer these specialty solutions to the market. We find that if the difficult-to-solve openings can be solved, the integrator is in a powerful position to capture the entire shade job,” says Mike Quadhamer, owner and CEO of Krohns Coverings, Inc. “Rectangular bottom-up shades are also a great idea for areas requiring privacy such as bedrooms and bathrooms.”
Krohns has been producing the angled and arched shade solutions since 2010. The company, which was founded in 1978 by Dan Krohn, has been serving the home automation integrator segment since 2003. Dan Krohn’s background was as a window covering installer. In 1987, he started a fabrication business with his brother, Don. The duo moved into a 22,000-square-foot facility in Colorado Springs 1999. Quadhamer acquired the business in 2000.
