Crestron is launching the Digital Graphics Engine 1000, a new device designed to transform most HD touch screens into a controller for Crestron smart home systems. Specifically, Crestron states in a blog post, that DGE-1000 is compatible with the company’s TSD-2220 touch screen display and most third-party USB HID compliant touch screens, mice, and keyboards.
According to the electronics manufacturer, the DGE-1000 uses CH5 and Crestron Construct software to create a custom graphical environment (not unlike a digital map) for controlling audio, video, lighting, shades, HVAC, security and other devices connected to a Crestron automation system.
The product also features dual-window video display, audio feedback, and web browsing. The physical device is surface-mountable for discreet installations behind a display. hidden by furniture, or in a rack.
DGE-1000 Additional Features and Specifications
The DGE‑1000 features an HDMI output for connecting to a display device and includes a USB port for touch, mouse, or keyboard input. Additional ports are provided to control the display device and other equipment. The HDMI input allows for a high-definition video source to be previewed directly as part of the user interface.
Additionally, streaming video signals can be received over an Ethernet connection, which provides an interface to a Crestron control system. The DGE-1000 will also support the Crestron general web app, which allows a user to run a custom web application on the touch screen from a server, the company says.
The DGE‑1000 can also be paired with Crestron’s large touch screen displays to deliver a high‑definition touch screen control panel that’s ideal for corporate, educational, and government applications.
In residential deployments, the DGE-1000 can transform any touch overlay display into a Crestron Home OS-enabled touch screen to control smart home systems with larger displays. The device integrates with the Crestron Home app for control and preview video feeds or full-screen video playback on Crestron or third-party displays.
The company says the DGE-1000 provides a high-performance graphics engine for a responsive user experience as well as enterprise-grade security protection. Users can enjoy full-screen video playback up to 1080p and H.264 streaming up to 4K30.
