A leader in the home video market LG has announced its LG SIGNATURE 2016 product lineup at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, and for custom installers, the large company's latest news may be a mixed bag of results.
First the good news — the company introduced several new video products that are headlined by the 65-inch 65E6 OLED 4K television. LG describes the OLED television as a “revolutionary” technology solution that delivers deep blacks and vivid colors from wide viewing angles. Aiding the television's color reproduction capabilities is the product's inclusion HDR (high dynamic range) capabilities. LG expects the television to meet the new UHDA Ultra HD Premium HDR certification parameters, and it will include Dolby Vision to make it one of the first TVs to offer compatibility with both color formats.
LG says the $7,000 television also features its Picture-On-Glass industrial design that measures just 2.57mm (1/10th of an inch) thick with a glass back.
Other new television products announced by LG include its LCD 4K UHD LCD/LED line of “Super UHD” products. These products feature HDR and Dolby Vision capabilities, and LG's webOS 3.0 smart technology platform. The 65-inch 65UH8500 will carry an MSRP of $3,000.
In addition to its new television, LG announced its Curved UC98 21:9 UltraWide monitor series that “provides extra screen real estate deisgned to ensure maximum productivity and entertainment for today's demanding power users.” This product line incorporates LG's IPS display technology; options for multitasking, and a QHD resolution (3,440 x1,440). LG points out the 34-inch 34UC98 will carry an MSRP of $1,199.
An important and possibibly overlooked element of LG's 2016 product releases from a dealer/installer perspective is the news that the products announced at CES, “are for sale to consumers, even before they officially rollout at retail stores.” LG says five of the products will be available for preorder through Amazon and other online retailers, and it adds that consumers can check the LG website to see what specific products are available for preoder.
“CES is the most anticipated consumer technology show of the year, and it's the launchpad for our latest and greatest products,” says David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing, LG Electronics USA. “This year, we're bringing that excitement directly to consumers who can buy some of these amazing products before they even hit store shelves.”
